After just three matches of the new campaign, it is clear Erik ten Hag's side could do with further reinforcement, though recent injury news has thrown a spanner in the works.
United had targeted the addition of a goalkeeper and a midfielder in the final days of the window, though with Luke Shaw now sidelined, there is added importance to getting a replacement in defence.
They are scanning the Spanish market for left-backs to offset injuries to Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, with Tottenham defender Sergio Reguilon, Marc Cucurella of Chelsea and Barcelona's Marcos Alonso under consideration.

They are all familiar to United, and there is a compelling case to be made for all three of them as additions to the United side this week.
Perhaps the most interesting of all is Marc Cucurella. The 25-year-old was one of the most exciting full-backs in world football during his solitary season with Brighton, but he has regressed since a mammoth move to Chelsea.
He could quite easily have been a Treble winner with Man City last season, but instead he could be heading to the red side of Manchester after his £63m move to Stamford Bridge hasn't worked out.
What is so compelling about a move for Cucurella is that he clearly has a lot more to offer, and if Ten Hag can get the best out of him like Brighton did, then he could even be a wildcard for the signing of the season.
The Spanish full-back has had mixed fortunes in his three appearances against United, rather fittingly experiencing a win, draw, and defeat against his prospective new club.
