A man fell to his death from a ninth floor flat moments after police came through the door and told him he was being arrested on suspicion of possession of indecent images of children, the M.E..N. can reveal.
The suspect, a man in his 40s who has not been named, was about to be led away when he asked to retrieve an item of clothing. Moments later he fell from a balcony window in front of shocked officers, it is understood.
Police raced to the ground floor and attempted CPR but the man was declared dead at the scene. The incident happened at Roach Court, a block of flats on Hamerton Road in Collyhurst, just north of Manchester city centre at about 7pm on Tuesday.

Officers from Greater Manchester Police who executed the warrant have given initial accounts of the incident, which is now being investigated by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
Today residents at at Roach Court - including one on the ground floor who saw the body through her kitchen window - have described their shock. One resident, who lives on the 9th floor, told the Manchester Evening News he saw a string of people coming and going from the deceased man's flat over the last few years.
He said said he believed the flat had been used as an Airbnb although police believe this wasn't the case.
"People come and they stay here for one or two nights or maybe more. I don't know them. I never see him," he said.
A woman who lives on the ground floor of Roach Court said: "I walked into the kitchen and saw police tape outside and a body on the ground. It's really shocked me. I can't stop thinking about it. He was wearing black trousers and a white shirt."
