Two legendary actors are set to join the cast of EastEnders over the festive period as George Knight is unexpectedly reunited with his adoptive parents, Gloria and Eddie Knight. Gloria will be played by Elizabeth Counsell, and Eddie will be portrayed by Christopher Fairbank.
The duo head to Walford to try and rebuild their relationship with George, who they haven’t seen for over a decade, but it soon becomes clear they have a secret.
Eighty one year old Elizabeth is best known for her role in the BBC television series Brush Strokes, but she has also appeared in a number of shows, including Call the Midwife, Doctors and The Split. As for Christopher, 70, he has had a huge career across film and television, and most recently, he appeared in the 2023 Disney film The Little Mermaid.
Speaking about the new additions, the soap's Executive Producer, Chris Clenshaw, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to welcome the legendary and immensely talented actors, Christopher and Elizabeth, to the EastEnders family as they bring to life the characters of Gloria and Eddie. “Although currently set to join for a short stint, Gloria and Eddie are thrust into the heart of the drama as they try to reconnect with their son, but it soon becomes apparent why George has kept his distance.” As for Elizabeth, she shared her joy at joining the BBC soap: “I can honestly say it has been an absolute joy.
“The cast and all of the team behind the scenes at EastEnders are brilliant and have been so welcoming. “Colin and I actually worked together before, and who would have thought that I’d be playing his mum almost thirty years later!” As for Christopher, he added: “I can’t tell you how thrilled I am to join the cast of EastEnders.
