Jamie Borthwick joined the cast of EastEnders in December 2006 and has remained a staple to our TV screens ever since, with his character Jay Brown taking on some huge storylines over the years. Jamie, 29, was cast in the role of Jay when he was just 12 years old and has gone on to become one of EastEnders' most-loved stars. He celebrated 17 years on the BBC One soap in December 2023.
He's now swapped Albert Square for the Strictly Come Dancing ballroom as he looks to compete in this year's Christmas special alongside professional dancer Nancy Xu. As we get set to watch Jamie show off his best moves this Christmas, here we take a look into the actor's life off-screen including his net worth... Jamie was born in Barking, London in 1994 and attended Sylvia Young Theatre School until he was 16 years old.
He joined EastEnders in 2006, and previously opened up about the moment he found out he'd been cast as Jay. Speaking on The One Show in 2023, Jamie said: "My mum had the call and we were dancing around the shop. Little did I know that 16 years later, I'd still be there.
It's mad how that kind of happens." As of December 2023, Jamie's exact net worth is unknown but it's understood he's earned a nice fortune from his lengthy stint in EastEnders. Stars of the BBC One show are paid thousands each year, with actors such as Steve McFadden, who plays Phil Mitchell, earning between £200,000 and £300,000. However, BBC actors allegedly have to ask for permission to do work outside of their show, such as voiceovers or personal appearances.
They cannot take part in TV or social media adverts unless granted permission.
