Coronation Street star Luca Toolan has revealed that he hid the news of his soap audition from his famous dad as he didn't want the "pressure" of his family knowing.
The Corrie star is best known for playing teenage bully Mason on the ITV soap, having joined the show last year. However, Corrie isn't Luca's only claim to fame - his dad is Hits Radio DJ Mike Toolan, who presents the station's drivetime show. While the pair are close, Luca has admitted that he kept his Coronation Street audition a secret from his dad and the rest of his family.
“I’m really superstitious with stuff like that, so I didn’t tell a single soul,” Luca, 19, said. “I would have been 10 times more nervous if my family knew, so I went in there with nothing to lose in terms of the pressure of people. “There was a point where I was so close to telling him, so close, because I was just that excited.
But I thought no, I’ll wait, because I had a good feeling and it went well.” Luca got the part andhas since taken his dad around the set. “Like me, he’s grown up on it. He loved it.
He’s met Liam [McCheyne, who plays Dylan] and Charlie [Wrenshall, who plays Liam] and he’s mingled with all of the cast at some point years and years ago.” Corrie fans will know Luca as the bully who's been terrorising the cobbles over the past year.
