A country pub near Chester has been named among the top gastropubs in the UK less than a year after opening its doors. The White Horse in Churton was bought, extensively refurbished and then reopened by chef Gary Usher as part of the Elite Bistros portfolio in March 2023.
The pub, situated in Churton, a pretty hamlet in Chester, was restored following a crowdfunding campaign led by Usher and has now been named in the Top 100 Gastropubs' list, compiled by Estrella Damm. It represents the first pub for Elite Bistros, whose other venues include Kala on King Street in Manchester and Hispi in Didsbury.
Sharing the news on The White Horse's Instagram channel this afternoon, the team at the Cheshire pub said it was an honour. The post also read: "So so proud and to be up there with some amazing other pubs! What a fantastic start to 2024."
