Four men formerly charged with manslaughter after death in 2016 of Jack Barnes

Four men have been formerly charged in connection with the death of a man after an alleged incident in Manchester city centre, Greater Manchester Police said today.
Jack Barnes, 29, originally from Hull, suffered a cardiac arrest and hypoxic brain injury. He died seven weeks later on December 2, 2016.
GMP said Stephen Rowlands, 67, Brian Gartside, 59, Matthew Sellers, 29, and Paul Fogarty, 50, have each been charged with a count of unlawful act manslaughter.

They are due to appear in court in Manchester next January.
The Manchester Evening News reported earlier this month the Crown Prosecution Service had authorised Greater Manchester Police to charge the four men.
In a statement on Friday, GMP said: "Four men have been charged in connection with an investigation into the death of Jack Barnes in 2016.
"Stephen Rowlands, 67, of Wearish Lane, Bolton, Brian Gartside, 59, of Lime Grove, Bury, Matthew Sellers, 29, of Heathfield Road, Bury, and Paul Fogarty, 50, of Monks Lane, Bolton, have each been charged with a count of unlawful act manslaughter.
"Rowlands has been additionally charged with one count of attempting to pervert the course of justice. They are next due to appear at Manchester Magistrates Court on 4 January 2024."
In a statement at the time, Jack's mother, Patricia Gerrard, said: "Jack was a loving and devoted daddy to his only child, Gracie, whom he loved with all his heart and soul. She was his world. His everything."
