Terrifying footage shows the moments a devastating fire tore through a house in Bury in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Fire crews rushed to Melrose Close in Whitefield at just after midnight on July 30 to reports of a fire. Neighbours had to be evacuated 'temporarily', with some still unable to return home this afternoon.
A 59-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson and remains in police custody for questioning. The fire started in an outbuilding, before spreading to a home, the fire service said. At the scene this morning, residents told the Manchester Evening News they watched on in horror as flames engulfed the property.

“Oh the devastation of that. That’s just awful," one resident said as she saw the charred house in the morning. "I feel like crying looking at that. Oh my god."
Her shock was echoed by others, who said they heard a 'loud bang' before the flames took hold. "I heard it and then felt the heat," one said. "I stepped out my front door and I could feel the heat from here. It felt like a thousand degrees."
Dramatic footage captures the blaze as it tore through the house in the early hours of the morning. Fire crews said they were on the scene for at least five hours before they were able to scale back their presence.
"The fire looked really bad. I kept expecting them to find a corpse," one neighbour said. A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) confirmed the occupier had left the property by the time crews arrived.
