Adidas has revealed Manchester United's new third kit was inspired by the 1909 FA Cup final.

Both the Robins and United traditionally wear red kits but unlike in the present day where only one team would change their strips, the FA ordered both sides to change for the showpiece. City chose to wear a blue kit while the Reds chose a white shirt with a red V-stripe.

Explaining why they chose to pay homage to this kit in particular, the German manufacturer said: "So the third kit this season, I think, is incredibly exciting for us. It's the first time we'll have the devil as the principle crest on the jersey.
"The secondary story would be the 1909 FA Cup win. The team played in it's first FA Cup final and they wore a kit which was an off-white colour, the shirt and the shorts and they wore a contrast sock so we referenced that colour blocking on this kit.
"On that kit they also had the rose. The only time a club ever wore a crest was in a cup final so when you see the kit and the details of the kit, you'll notice there is a rose on the inside of the shirt and that's referencing the 1909 cup final.
"They also had the devil on the shorts of the away kit and the home kit. Obviously the devil is used across multiple different things such as the flags.
