With every visit home, I realise just how blessed I am to come from such a beautiful country. Memories of trips make me smile and to mark Scotland’s Year of Stories I’m planning island escapes.

Before we even got on the ferry it was thrilling – Oban seemed like such a big place compared to Kenmore, Perthshire where I grew up. Having travelled the world since then, that feels like a funny thing to write – but my heart will always be in Scotland. On the ferry, the scenery was stunning.
It’s just a 45-minute trip, but Mull felt a million miles away. What a fabulous place to disconnect – something we all need to do at times.
The highlight was visiting Tobermory: a beautiful fishing village, with colourful houses, distillery, and lovely shops. Years later when my little sister Mia came along, that song would haunt me. You know the one: What’s the story in Balamory…

This is Scotland’s Year of Stories, so why not plan an island adventure to create stories of your own? From icons of literature to local tales, Scotland’s Year of Stories encourages everyone to explore the places, people and cultures connected to all forms of our stories, past and present.
