Instagram users are experiencing issues this afternoon as thousands have seen their accounts suddenly suspended with no explanation.
Problems began at 12:45pm on Monday and since then, more than 3,000 complaints have been made to global outage site Down Detector. Of those, 58 per cent are having problems with the app, 38 per cent are facing login issues and 4 per cent have run into problems with the website.
Users have reported being issued with a warning message that their accounts have been suspended - with just 30 days to dispute or risk it being 'permanently disabled'.
According to their policy, Instagram may choose to disable certain accounts which "violate community guidelines." Content that can fall under this includes illegal, bullying, hate speech or abuse, spam, or violating intellectual property.
The issue is UK-wide, spreading as far as Glasgow to Manchester and London.
In a statement shared on Instagram's Twitter page, it read: "We're aware that some of you are having issues accessing your Instagram account.
"We're looking into it and apologize for the inconvenience #instagramdown."
The hashtag #InstagramDown is trending on Twitter, as hundreds are reporting similar issues of being unable to login to their profiles.
One comment read: "Did anyone else's Instagram just get suspended for no reason? And now Instagram won't even bother to let you appeal it just gives you an error?"
While another asked: "What happened for Instagram ? It has suspended my account for no reason. Is anyone's account been suspended like this for no reason?!"
