A grandma who tragically died after suffering catastrophic injuries in a horror crash in Westhoughton has been remembered as 'courageous' and a 'force to be reckoned with'.
Irene Marion Bull, née Hanaghan, aged 71, passed away in hospital on Monday (December 18) after sustaining serious injuries in the collision on Lower Leigh Road.
Enquiries have suggested a car travelling towards Westhoughton overtook a HGV, subsequently colliding with another car travelling in the opposite direction. A third vehicle then crashed into the back of this car as it grinded to a halt.

Irene was rushed to hospital from the scene with serious injuries before her death. In a heartfelt tribute, she was described as the 'heart of the family' who 'fought many obstacles in her life'.
“She was strong, courageous and a force to be reckoned with. The heart of the family. She fought many obstacles in her life but strength and love for her children kept her going," the family said.
"She leaves behind two loving kids Paul and Lindsey, and two loving grandchildren Callum and Connor, that she lived for as well as other family members that are all grieving her loss.
“We take comfort in the fact that she is now at peace and reunited with her much-loved mum Kathleen. The loss we have experienced will never leave us. RIP Mum, you’re now free from pain.”
Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are continuing to investigate the incident that happened on Lower Leigh Road, in Westhoughton, at around 4.15pm last Friday
