Paul Scholes has questioned whether Manchester United's summer signings have made them stronger after seeing another poor start to the season under Erik ten Hag.
United invested £192.1million on signings over the summer, with those seven additions the most made by the club in a single window. Big money was spent on Mason Mount, Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund early on in the summer, while Altay Bayindir, Sergio Reguilon and Sofyan Amrabat arrived on deadline day - Jonny Evans also signed a one-year contract as a free agent.
But despite another expensive summer, Ten Hag's side have endured a torrid start to the season. A 3-1 defeat at home to Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday was their third defeat in five games, confirming a poorer start to the season than in the Dutchman's debut year.

"I think they are on a very similar path to last season," Scholes told TNT Sports. "They had a really bad start, and a poor start this season, and I thought after last year they were going in a different direction and was starting to take this club somewhere.
"He [Ten Hag] sorted the discipline and then I thought in the summer he was going to spend £200m to take this club to the next level. I don’t think the signings have done that.
"I think he has made his squad stronger, but I don’t think he has made it better. I don’t think he has made a team that can challenge for the Premier League title, or for the competition they are in tonight."
Hojlund only made his first start for United in that defeat to Brighton on Saturday, having come off the bench for his debut in the 3-1 loss at Arsenal
