Coronation Street has thrown in another curve ball as Leanne's late son ‘returned from the dead' in the form of AI in Friday night's episode. Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) hasn’t quite been herself since she became swept up with Rowan Cunliffe (Emrhys Cooper) and 'The Institute', and the departure of stepson Simon Barlow hasn’t made things any easier. Viewers on Fridat night saw the ‘return’ of her late son, Oliver, in AI, which didn't go down well with Nick, or her sister, Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor).
In the episode a shocked Toyah found Leanne telling someone on her laptop screen that she loved them and thought it was Rowan, but Leanne denied it. Later, it was revealed it was actually her son in AI form. Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) was flabbergasted when Toyah tells him what she heard and heads straight home where he found Rowan and Leanne holding hands on the sofa.
Leanne then confessed, showing Nick the AI version of her late son Oliver on her laptop.
The computerised version of the young boy was made to predict what he'd look like if he were still alive now. 'Oliver' even spoke to them, asking how they were. However, Nick didn't seem too keen to 'speak back'.
Oliver was the son of Leanne Battersby and Steve McDonald, who was born in 2017. He was diagnosed with a a life-limiting form of mitochondrial disease at just three years old, and tragically passed away in November of that year. It doesn't look like fans were impressed with the 'AI Oliver' either as they took to X, formerly known as Twitter to discuss.
