Officers from Police Scotland attended an address in North Berwick Law in East Lothian on October 23, with the 15-year-old's death currently "unexplained".
The North Berwick High School pupil's death is not thought to be suspicious, police added. East Lothian Council released a statement saying it would provide support for anyone affected by the death, reports the East Lothian Courier.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Around 6.15pm on Monday, October 23, police were called to North Berwick Law area following the sudden death of a 15-year-old girl.
“The death is being treated as unexplained but there do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
A council spokesperson said: “North Berwick High School received sad news of the unexpected passing of an S4 pupil last night. The school community’s thoughts are with their family at this most difficult of times.
