What a week it’s been for Anthony Elanga, with the teenager finding himself in the thick of the action for Manchester United.
The 19-year-old made his second senior start in the space of five days against Brentford on Wednesday, and he made his time in the side count as he scored the opener in United’s 3-1 win in London.
Elanga showed good composure to cushion Fred’s cross into the penalty area before heading the ball past Jonas Lossl for his second senior goal for the club.
It was a goal that saw the Swedish teenager repay the faith shown in him by interim manager Ralf Rangnick this season, having been handed six appearances since the German’s arrival at Old Trafford in December.
And Elanga lapped up his special moment on social media afterwards, posting a number of stories on Instagram in which he showed himself swapping shirts with compatriot Pontus Jansson, and outlined his love for Bruno Fernandes.
And the feeling is clearly mutual with the Portuguese star, who later posted a response on one of Elanga’s posts.
Posting a picture of himself celebrating at Brentford, Elanga wrote: “THANKYOU GOD. Leaving London with 3 points. Full focus on Saturday now, Vamonos!”
A host of his young United team-mates, including Teden Mengi and D’Mani Mellor, replied to the post, as well as Fernandes, who left his own message to the teenager.
“Let’s keep pushing kid,” Fernandes wrote, along with a love heart emoji in response to Elanga’s earlier story.
The 19-year-old will be pushing for another start this weekend as United host West Ham in a crucial game for their top four hopes, with the Hammers in direct competition with them for a Champions League spot.
