Manchester United will face a difficult task to prise John McGinn away from Aston Villa due to Steven Gerrard's influence, Paul Parker has warned.
The Scotland midfielder has flourished in the Premier League and has become a key component of the claret and blue midfield.
He missed the draw with the Reds earlier this month and his absence was heavily felt as United exploited their midfield frailty with Bruno Fernandes scoring twice. Ralf Rangnick's side's shortcomings also became evident as they squandered their lead and shared the spoils.
But the former full-back has raised concerns about the influence of former Liverpool captain, Gerrard, at Villa Park amid any potential United interest in McGinn.
"With McGinn, how much are Villa going to want to sell him to Manchester United? Steven Gerrard hasn't come to Villa to sell players to Manchester United," he told Kelbet.
"If you've been to Liverpool, played for Liverpool, born in Liverpool, you don't want to give anything to Manchester United."
The Scottish Premiership-winning boss recently addressed McGinn's future and strongly rebuffed any talk of a Vila exit, emphasising their intent to maintain the Scottish international's services.
He said: "We are certainly not a club that is looking to sell. Our intention is to keep John McGinn here.".
"We don’t want to be a selling club unless there is a situation, as with [Jack] Grealish [to Manchester City], which works itself out if you like.
"We want [McGinn] to remain a Villa player and we can’t be any clearer on that. We love the player, we love the human being and we want to help him."
