Former Tottenham and Sunderland striker Darren Bent has questioned why Newcastle didn’t throw money at Manchester United to sign Jesse Lingard.
The winger was the subject of a number of failed attempts by the Magpies to sign him during the latter stages of the January transfer window.
After a move to the north-east looked to have been ruled out in the days leading up to deadline day, United interim boss Ralf Rangnick then told Lingard he was free to leave on loan, seemingly reviving Newcastle’s hopes.
But just as a deal looked to be on the cards again, United blocked the move, meaning Lingard will instead spend the remainder of the season at Old Trafford.
