BBC Traitors fans ‘heartbroken’ as Diane’s fate is finally revealed

After last week’s nail biting cliffhanger that saw The Traitor ’s star Diane’s fate hanging in the balance, viewers at home finally revealed the truth about her fate during Wednesday’s episode. The 63 year old from Lancashire looked set to be killed during last week’s finale, when Traitor Miles was tasked with murdering the next Faithful with a ‘poisoned chalice’. Whoever drank from the goblet would be sent home from the competition, but in a surprising twist the episode ended on a cliffhanger that showed the goblet in Diane’s hand - but crucially didn’t show the star drinking from it.
Now, one week on the truth has finally been revealed as Diane sadly didn't manage to dodge death or rumble that the mysterious goblet of wine was poisoned. In scenes that left fans hooked on the edge of their seats, Diane could be seen raising the chalice to her lips and taking a drink from the chalice, something which appeared to seal her fate. However, host Claudia Winkleman later revealed a further twist as she explained that the poison’s effect wasn’t immediate, something which caused a clear moment of confusion among the Traitors when they spotted Diane, still alive and well, at breakfast the following morning.
In a final brutal moment, Claudia then added that the person would die before the end of the day, in a “slow, painful” day. Fans at home were blindsided by the development, which followed on from several earnest pleas from viewers at home to choose Diane to be a Traitor as she was clearly the biggest threat to Paul, Harry and Miles, the three surviving Traitors in the competition.
