Manchester United are heading into a new era after Sir Jim Ratcliffe completed his deal to invest in the club.
The 71-year-old billionaire now holds a 25 per cent stake at the Premier League giants after successfully getting his deal over the line. INEOS founder Sir Jim will initially work alongside the Glazer family in the boardroom.
Starting up a long-winded saga, the much-maligned Americans announced a strategic review to their ownership in November 2022 as Sir Jim and Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim went head-to-head for outright control. However, when the latter withdrew from the bidding process, Sir Jim too made a revised offer.

Despite being the sole frontrunner, there was still red tape for the Failsworth-born businessman to get through as his team, the Raine Group and Glazer family worked behind the scenes to get the £1.25billion agreement across the line. Ratcliffe was born in Failsworth and is known to be a boyhood United fan. In addition to his new-found affiliation with the club in a formal sense, the 71-year-old also owns French Ligue 1 side OGC Nice. He founded and owns the world-renowned chemical company INEOS.
Football is not the only sporting passion associated with Ratcliffe and the INEOS Group back cycling team INEOS Grenadiers, formerly known as Team Sky. Although he has supported United since he was a child, after moving to London the billionaire later became a season-ticket holder at Chelsea.
