An investigation has been launched after a fly-tip was found under a motorway bridge and just a short distance away from a tip.
The mess was discovered on Thursday (December 7) near to Stretford Meadow, where the suburb meets Sale and the M60. It is also just a short walk from the Chester Road tip, which is run by Recycle for Greater Manchester (R4GM).
As an R4GM site, it means anyone can use the tip from any Greater Manchester borough — except Wigan — rather than going to a tip in their own council area. People who drive household waste can visit 52 times a year, or once a week.

Despite it only being a short distance to a proper dump, someone decided to pollute the Meadow — prompting an investigation. They could be prosecuted, if caught, authorities said.
A spokesperson for Trafford Council said: “One of our officers is investigating the matter. We will also carry out a check to establish land ownership and get it cleared.
“We have taken people to court before to answer for their selfishness and we will continue to do so. There is no excuse for illegally dumping waste. It is a scourge on our communities and we will not stand for this sort of menace.
“If we find evidence of who dumped the waste, we will take action.”
