Manchester City invited Konstantinos Karetsas for a trial - but the offer was turned down, according to the highly-rated Belgian midfielder’s father.
The 16-year-old has shot to prominence in his home country after breaking into Genk’s first-team. Karetsas made his professional debut aged just 15 on the opening day of the season.
That was for Jong Genk, essentially an Under-23s side who play in the Challenger Pro League, the second-highest division in Belgium. Karetsas was called up to Genk’s senior squad against Cercle Brugge earlier this month, coming off the bench in the Jupiler Pro League clash before being handed a start against Royal Antwerp.
Reports in Belgium say City are taking an interest in the teenager, who made his international debut at Under-16s level last year. Karetsas’ father, Vaios, has claimed City have made contact with the ‘super talent’ but an invitation to England was rejected.

“RB Leipzig, Milan and even Manchester City invited us several times to come and have a look. We didn’t like it,” Vaios said (via Sport Witness).
“The only team outside Genk where we had discussions was Ajax. Purely because it is close by and we have a lot of respect for that club.
“That was just one conversation. The second would be about sporting and financial matters, but we had already given our word to Genk at that time.”
Karetsas spent three years with Anderlecht's academy before he returned to Genk, the place of his birth, last year. "He learned a lot there [Anderlecht] and was able to complement his education," said Vaios.
"So why did we choose to return
