Victor Lindelof expects his year-long contract extension to be triggered by Manchester United.
The 29-year-old is one of six first-team players who sees his deal expire in June. Tom Heaton, Jonny Evans, Anthony Martial, Aaron-Wan-Bissaka and Hannibal Mejbri are all in the final year of their deals too.
The Manchester Evening News reported last month that Lindelof, Wan-Bissaka and Hannibal are due to have their extensions triggered in the coming months. Lindelof was signed in 2017 from Benfica in an initial £31million deal. He has racked up 246 appearances since then, lifting his first piece of silverware at the club in February’s League Cup triumph.

Lindelof, initially going into the season apparently as a back-up, has played 15 times so far this campaign amid injuries to Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez, having also sometimes filled in at left-back.
Diogo Dalot (17 games) is the only defender to have played more this term. Lindelof is currently being selected ahead of Varane, who has not started a Premier League game since September.
During the last international break, Lindelof said he expected his one-year United contract extension to be activated and he has now re-emphasised his stance when speaking to native Swedish media this week.
Asked about his employment situation at Old Trafford by Fotbollskanalen, he said: “There I get to see what happens. There is an option and it [contract extension] will most likely be activated.”
