A Ukrainian mum has spoken of her horror after her son was stabbed on an Edinburgh street just months after the family fled their war torn country.
Iryna Drobysh's 13-year-old son Yaroslav was attacked by a gang of boys on Sunday, September 3, in Niddrie Mains Road.
The youngster, who was with two friends at the time, made a terrifying phone call to his mum and was rushed to hospital after the sickening gang attack.
Iryna, 43, said they were still living in fear due to bomb and drone attacks in their home country when Yaroslav was assaulted, Edinburgh Live reports.
After fleeing Ukraine to keep her family safe, she is again terrified for her son's safety.
Iryna said: "I want people to understand we didn't come here for trouble, we came fleeing the war because we had no other choice.
"We left Ukraine one year ago which was so scary. At the time we thought it would just be a couple of months but now we don't know when we will get to go home.
"We didn't know it would last so long. A year after living in Edinburgh we were still afraid of bombs and drone attacks and it was just starting to get better when this happened.
"It was so nice when we came here and I never thought anything like this could happen. I thought Edinburgh was the safest city in the world.
"My son is scared to go out and play with his friends where they live now. I am also scared for my son, I'm frustrated and afraid because I don't know how I can protect him.
"Should I keep him at home all the time? He is a 13-year-old boy. I don't know what I'm supposed to do."
The Ukrainian community in Edinburgh has been supporting the family since their arrival in the city and they are also shocked by the incident.
Iryna said: "The community are so shocked, they asked me 'Here in
