A hairdresser has been found guilty of murdering her husband by stabbing him in the heart after chopping onions for their tea.
Teresa Hanson, 54, had denied killing Paul Hanson on December 28 last year, but was unanimously convicted following a third trial on Thursday. Hanson, from West Cowick, near Hull, sobbed and disappeared from view, with her head in her hands, in the secure dock after the jury foreman gave the verdict to the court.
As reported by Hull Live, there were shrieks, sobs and shouts of "no" and "unbelievable" from her supporters in the public gallery. Judge John Thackray KC told her: "You have been convicted of murder. You know that there is only one sentence, which is life imprisonment."
Hanson, wearing a black cardigan, coloured top and black trousers, was remanded in custody and will be sentenced on October 3. She had previously been on bail. Deliberations during that trial had spanned three days.
During the trial, the prosecution claimed that she stabbed Mr Hanson, 54, in the chest with a kitchen knife, causing catastrophic and fatal damage to his heart. The incident came after she had been preparing tea, including chopping onions, and drinking red wine.
Two Christmas trees and a large number of festive decorations and red and white balloons and a balloon arch were in the house at the time. Hanson made a 999 call for an ambulance and she said that she stabbed her husband "just out of anger" after they had an argument.
She said that she did not mean to do it and that there was a lot of blood. Mr Hanson was found lying at the end of a "trail of blood" and was dead on arrival at Hull Royal Infirmary despite the "heroic" efforts of paramedics.
Hanson declined to answer questions during the police interview
