Dean Henderson could be marooned at Manchester United after Tom Heaton sustained an injury.
Heaton, 37, is understood to have suffered a calf injury in training ahead of the Premier League season opener against Wolves on Monday and is expected to be sidelined for a few weeks.
Back-up goalkeeper Matej Kovar is still expected to join Bayer Leverkusen, despite Heaton's likely absence for the remainder of this month.
Henderson, 26, had expected to rejoin Nottingham Forest and United have held discussions about a possible loan with an obligation to buy.

Yet Heaton’s setback could ensure Henderson remains as number two to Andre Onana, having railed against his back-up status in recent years.
Henderson was aggrieved he was not installed as United’s No.1 at the start of the 2021-22 season after then-manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told him of his intention to sell David de Gea.
Henderson contracted Covid-19 during pre-season and when he returned in September Solskjaer refused to drop De Gea. Henderson only made three appearances for United that campaign.
United had an offer accepted for goalkeeper Zion Suzuki by Urawa Red Diamonds but the Japanese rrejected them in favour of joining Belgian club STVV.
Last season, United loaned in Martin Dubravka from Newcastle and when the Slovakian was recalled in January, Jack Butland joined on loan from Crystal Palace.
