The Hoops legend was in the stands as Ange Postecoglou’s men moved 12 points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership with the crucial win against Rangers. Celtic refused to take briefs for Govan amid safety concerns after Rangers slashed the allocation from 7500 to under 800. Gers did the same for Celtic Park and the clubs have hit a stalemate as the Hoops won’t take fans across the city unless it’s back to the old numbers. Ibrox bosses won’t budge but Boyd hopes they can get around the table as he believes the derby isn’t the same with only one set of supporters.
He said: “We want to get back to the way it was with 7500 fans at each ground. The Celtic fans produced a great atmosphere at the weekend, but it’s not the same.
“There was some nervousness at times and you could sense it. It’s really strange when there is a goal against you, the place is silent.
“You don’t get any quiet periods when there are two sets of fans going back and forth. I don’t know how the situation gets resolved, but I just hope it’s not here to stay.”
