Manchester United fans have been left delighted after the club confirmed the signing of Lisandro Martinez from Ajax.
Erik ten Hag has been looking to bolster his centre-back options at United and, after giving up on initial target Jurrien Timber, has now secured another one of his former players in Martinez instead. The versatile defender, who is capable of playing at full-back or in midfield, has put pen to paper on a five-year deal until 2027, worth around £120,000 a week, with the option of a further 12 months.
It's understood that United have agreed a £46.8 million fee with the Dutch champions for Martinez, with an additional £8.5million to be paid in bonuses if certain performance-based clauses are met. The 24-year-old arrived in Manchester over the weekend to sign his contract, though the move is still subject to the visa process, with medical and personal terms also needing to be finalised.

The Argentine becomes United's third signing of the summer following the addition of left-back Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord and the arrival of Christian Eriksen on a free transfer after the midfielder left Brentford. United were forced to accelerate their talks for Martinez after Arsenal made their own interest concrete with an offer but Martinez only had eyes for working with Ten Hag again once it became clear he wanted him at Old Trafford.
United saw an initial bid rejected by Ajax but had a breakthrough last week, with John Murtough and Richard Arnold travelling to Amsterdam to secure the deal following a trip to Barcelona to work on the prospective signing of Frenkie de Jong.
