Despite the Princess of Wales being a huge part of the Royal Family these days, the situation was not always the same, according to reports.
Instead, there was a time when Kate was something of a jet-setter, traveling across the world and enjoying lavish holidays. The trips were allegedly a concern of Queen ELizabeth II, with Her Majesty worried the now Princess of Wales may not have been "Queen material".
Royal expert Katie Nicholl explained in her 2010 book, William and Harry, that: "If she was not with William at Balmoral then the couple were skiing or holidaying on Mustique. Kate was there so often the press dubbed her "Queen of Mustique", a title that had previously belonged to Princess Margaret'. Britain was now in a recession and such frivolous displays of wealth were unpalatable to the Queen. While the rest of the world speculated that an engagement was on the horizon for William and Kate, the Queen believed an announcement should be postponed until Kate was settled in a career."
The book also quoted a source who suggested: "It is Her Majesty’s opinion that if Kate is one day going to be William’s consort, then she needs a proper job.Swanning from one five-star holiday resort to another is not the prerequisite for a young woman possibly destined to be Queen."
The royal expert goes on to claim that the Queen's words "stung" Kate, before the Princess went on to prove herself as an extremely popular member of the royal family.
The Queen's doubts seemed to have been short lived, with the Princess of Wales going on to build a close relationship with her late Grandmother-in-law before her sad passing on September 8, 2022.
Kate spent lots of time with the Queen at her Balmoral following her and Prince William's wedding.
