A woman from Gorton has transformed a foodbank that used to do pop-ups into a permanent community cafe that still helps those in need.
Ameera Ramzan started Heaven’s Angel’s foodbank alone during the COVID-19 pandemic without any help and was making pick-ups and drop offs of food and necessities in her own time for homeless people.
The food bank used to pop up on Fridays in a variety of places throughout Manchester, including church halls, stalls and by the pavement.

Ameera’s dedication came to a point where she would fund entire boxes of food and necessities out of her own pocket when there weren’t enough donations.
Heaven’s Angel food bank has now been turned into a community cafe available for those struggling with the cost of living crisis after finding a space at the end of April last year.
Ameera spoke to the M.E.N, she said: “We started a night community cafe where we can actually start doing nightly drops to those in need.
“My partner Darryl and his 13-year-old son also help in the cafe and both also help with nightly drops, we couldn’t keep going if it wasn’t for all the support from the community pulling all of us together.
“My partner's son also helps out in Denton Community College, he’s helping put foods into crates and distributes them. He really does deserve some recognition.”
Heaven’s Angels food bank also worked throughout the holidays making deliveries on Christmas and donations to children who were unfortunate not to receive any.
The community cafe was shared all over social media to help get traction for donations to help families in Gorton have an enjoyable Christmas.
