According to recent research, there's a staggering £14 billion worth of unused items in most UK homes.
Astonishingly, over 100 million old mobile phones are collecting dust in our homes - that's a lot of money just waiting to be cashed in. A study by mobile phone company Giffgaff, as reported by the Express, also found Brits have at least two discarded handsets in their bins and only 57 percent of these are actually broken or faulty.
On the back of their own research, the company is now urging people to turn their forgotten tech into cash. The average trade-in value of an old mobile on Giffgaff is £133. That means each household could potentially have over £500 worth of unused gadgets.
Ash Schofield, who leads Giffgaff, said: "Our research shows that people are sitting on a significant amount of cash, at a time when finances are being hit hard. I would urge everyone to do what they can to get the maximum lifetime out of their phone. It's good for your pocket and importantly the environment."
Giffgaff has urged people to find out how much your phone could be worth. Anyone can check the price of their old device and sell it via giffgaffrecycle.com.

Owen Gleiberman Chief Film Critic How distraught is Annette, the severely troubled British mother of two played by Daisy Ridley in “Magpie?” She has gotten a short angular haircut, one that might, in another context, be the height of chic (very Isabella Rossellini). Except that the movie uses it as a symbolic expression of her trauma, like Mia Farrow’s iconic Vidal Sassoon cut in “Rosemary’s Baby.” Annette, who’s on some serious medication, looks at a mirror until it breaks. Does she have telekinetic powers? No, she broke it with her hand (which bleeds into the sink), but the force of her repressed rage is palpable.
The Repair Shop star Dominic Chinea might star in one of the BBC's most beloved programmes, but away from the show he likes to lead a much quieter life. But while he is instantly recognisable to fans of the show, you might not have seen him in too many other TV appearances outside of it as he has a low-key life away from the spotlight, focussing on the work he loves.

Disney has been like “sitting in the desert”.In 2021, the MMA fighter-turned-actor was fired by Disney and the show The Mandalorian after she posted a string of controversial opinions online.Carano has recently filed a lawsuit against Disney and its subsidiary Lucasfilm, alleging that the production companies wrongfully terminated her from The Mandalorian and other Star Wars titles for sharing a range of far-right opinions.Last month, Elon Musk said he would help to fund Carano’s suit. The posts in question saw Carano — who portrayed Cara Dune on The Mandalorian — upload a string of controversial posts, one of which compared the treatment of conservatives in the US to that of Jewish people in Nazi Germany.Others included ridiculing mask mandates during the COVID-19 pandemic, and furthering false suggestions of voter fraud during the 2020 presidential election.
