Holidays might be on people’s minds, but there’s no rest for the hospitality folk, with a raft of new openings coming this month. Here are some of the best new places to check out in August...

New Century will finally be throwing open its doors later this month, with the folks from Now Wave breathing new life into the concert hall upstairs, and a host of first rate food traders in the space downstairs. Fine dining don Adam Reid will be unveiling his new sandwich concept The Butty Shop, vegan Vietnamese icons Bahn Vi will be bring broths and baguettes, while BaoBros23 will be sorting out the buns. Cannot wait for this.

Who doesn’t get childishly excited at the thought of stuffing their face full of dumplings? Arriving from Liverpool, Yum Cha is arriving at the Kampus development imminently courtesy of brothers Adam and Neil Wan, and will be bringing bundles of steamed and fried joy. Named after the Chinese answer to brunch, popular among the Cantonese, there will also be roast meats, big plates and teaming bowls of noodle soup. Heaven.

The new neighbourhood venture from the folks behind Cottonopolis and The Edinburgh Castle in Ancoats, The Libertine has taken on the listed former NatWest bank, perhaps the most handsome building in Withington. Having been lovingly restored, there will be distressed decor, great beers, and if the other spots are anything to go by, some fantastic food too.
