This is the terrifying moment a flash flood swept through a housing estate amid heavy rainfall.
Emergency services were called to the scene on Chestnut Drive in Youghal, Ireland, this morning after residents alerted them to huge amounts of water building up in the area, reports CorkBeo.
A 'dam', caused by a build up of debris that had washed down a ditch behind a wall, suddenly burst spewing out gallons of water. A video taken by a local resident shows water pouring out from the base of a structure, with the ground quickly submerged by the flood.
It came after a whopping 52 mm of rain fell overnight amid Storm Babet, with widespread flooding reported in the town.
Stacey Lewis, Youghal Area rep for Sinn Féin, lives in the area and says the flooding passed through some houses. She said: "Fire services have been out here since early this morning. It literally looks like a complete slab of wall has just collapsed. I've seen gas canisters and children's toys floating off down the street".
"Some video from the estate literally shows water going through some people's houses. The estate's in a dip, so the houses down at the bottom corner are just seeing water pooling in their driveways.
She added: "It's this bad now, and it isn't even high tide. It's scary to think what things will be like later this evening."
The Youghal Fire Service is still on the scene and carrying out checks to make sure the ground in stable and there is no further risk to the people living in the area.
