Another storm, more heavy rain - and the A555 is closed due to flooding again.
A stretch of the notorious Airport Relief Road - which links Hazel Grove, in Stockport, to the airport - is waterlogged after Storm Henk hit our region yesterday (Tuesday). It was first shut yesterday afternoon and remains closed today between the A523 Poynton Relief Road to the A34 at Handforth.
This isn't the first time heavy downpours have led to flooding on the bypass - and it probably won't be the last. Since the £290m route was opened in 2018, it has been closed off multiple times on the same stretch.

Pictures show parts of the bypass underneath a bridge submerged in water. An Aston Martin was left abandoned within the floodwater.
One eyewitness who filmed the flooding echoed the thoughts of many who were unable to use the road this morning.
"Bloody useless this bypass", Barry said. "Bloody waste of time. Complete waste of time this bypass."
Commuters who use the road have even made a Facebook group about it - named 'Is the bypass open (A555)'. This morning, Geoff commented in the group: "This is just ridiculous, every time we have heavy rain the roads closed. What’s anybody doing about it??"
Andy wrote: "Surprise, surprise - the A555 canal is closed again. Any plans to fix the repeated flooding issues that close this road so often?"
