Over £3 million in speeding fines were issued to motorists in Greater Manchester in a year, new figures have revealed. Between November 2022 and November 2023, over 30,000 fines were issued after motorists were caught by speed cameras across the region.
A Freedom of Information request (FOI) submitted to Greater Manchester Police has now revealed how £3,076,300 in fines were handed to motorists as a result of speeding offences within the 12 month period.
The figure was amassed with a total of 30,763 penalty notices given to drivers between November 1 2022 and November 1 2023, data obtained by Personal Injury Claims UK shows.

According to Greater Manchester Police, the minimum penalty for speeding is a £100 fine and three points added to somebody's driving licence. Motorists who receive 12 or more points within three years can be disqualified from driving.
Within two weeks of a vehicle being caught speeding, the registered keeper will be sent a 'Notice of Intended Prosecution', issued by the police informing a driver they intend to prosecute for a motoring offence, and a 'Section 172 Notice', a legal requirement of a registered vehicle keeper to provide details regarding the alleged traffic offence.
It comes just months after it was announced a new type of speed camera was being rolled out on Greater Manchester's roads, helping police spot more dangerous driving than before.
