Former Strictly Come Dancing professional Oksana Platero, who was born and lived in Ukraine, has revealed her grandparents have found safety after fleeing the country following a near-miss with a devastating bomb. During an emotional appearance on ITV’s Good Morning Britain, the 33 year old dancer explained the torment she’s enduring as she’s separated from her loved ones and is forced to watch from afar as she lives in Florida, America.
However, Oksana, who appeared on the show alongside Judge Rinder, who went to help at the Poland border, went on to say has been in constant touch with them as they make their way to the country’s border looking for safety. But as events worsened in the war-torn country, they were forced to flee and leave their home behind. Oksana revealed: “That’s the story for most elderley people, they don’t know outside their home or their country, and their idea to leave their country is just not something they were willing to consider.” She continued: “My grandma had her cat and her house and she just said, ‘It doesn’t matter what happens, I’m not leaving’.” But a terrifying encounter led to her changing her mind, as she realised she had no choice but to escape.
