The first celebrity to leave Strictly Come Dancing has been confirmed, following a shock dance off during Sunday's show. On Saturday, 30 September, the 15 stars of the series performed for the second time, but for the first time this year, the public could have their say through the vote.
The scores were added to last week's scores, and it was delight for Layton Williams as he topped the leaderboard, but despair for Les Dennis as he finished bottom. It was then over to the public, and their votes meant that Les and his partner Nancy Xu would face Nikita Kanda and Gorka Márquez in the first dance off of the series.
First up was Nikita, 28, and Gorka, 33, to dance their Charleston to Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It) by Beyoncé for a second time. Then it was over to Les, 69, and Nancy, 32, to perform the Samba to Rock The Boat by Hues Corporation as they looked to make it through. However, it was bad news for Les and Nancy as all four judges decided to save Nikita and Gorka, meaning they became the first couple to leave the show.
When making his decision, Craig Revel Horwood said: "The couple I would like to save and who I think danced the best on the night and was the most improved is Nikita and Gorka." Motsi Mabuse agreed as she added: "Both couples danced better in the dance off. One couple was extremely better in the dance off. I will save Nikita and Gorka." It was then down to Anton Du Beke, who explained: "I thought it was a competition of two couples on performance alone and who could really nail their performance.
