Freight Island has today announced details about a 'spectacular' firework display taking place in Manchester City Centre over the Bonfire Night weekend.
Freight Island, a food and drink hub based at Manchester's Depot Mayfield, has teamed up with Walk the Plank, the UK's leading creators of outdoor spectacles, to present an 'enchanting' Fireworks and Fire Garden at Mayfield Park. It will take place on Saturday, 4 and Sunday 5 November at Mayfield Park.
It comes just a couple of weeks after it was confirmed major public bonfire nights and fireworks organised by Manchester City Council would not take place for a second year running with bosses blaming "rising costs" and "pressure on budgets". The council said that it would not be reinstating bonfire events including the huge celebration at Heaton Park, and that its position remains the same following the review post-Covid.

Those looking to attend an event in the city centre will be pleased to read details about Freight Island's collaborative Bonfire Night plans, which will see fireworks and hand-crafted fire sculptures with theatrical elements take over the 6.5-acre area.
Mayfield Park will be transformed into an other-worldly landscape for one weekend only, where audiences are invited to explore the Fire Garden – featuring flame-lined paths, as well as copper flowers that breathe fire, intricately carved flaming flower boxes, and scorching sculptural trees.
