Soap veteran to join Coronation Street as Joel's mum amid major drama

Coronation Street is set to welcome a new face, as legendary soap star Carol Royle joins the cast. She will be playing Anthea Deering, mother of Joel Deering (Calum Lil).
Carol Royle is no stranger to the small screen, having appeared in popular shows such as Casualty, Doctors and The Bill. She also played Lady Patricia Brewster in Heartbeat and Jenny Russell in the BBC show Life Without George.
Anthea arrives in Weatherfield to meet her son's girlfriend, Dee-Dee (Channique Sterling-Brown). However, their meeting at the bistro takes an unexpected turn when Dee-Dee storms out after Anthea makes some unwelcome comments about her family, reports OK! Magazine.

It remains unclear whether Anthea will manage to fix things with Dee-Dee and become a part of her and Joel's life. It's also not known how long she will stay on the cobbles.
Anthea's arrival coincides with the unfolding mystery surrounding the disappearance of Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton). The teenager vanished earlier this year, and Roy Cropper (David Neilson) is currently in prison, wrongly accused of her murder.
However, there are suspicions among fans that Joel may have a role in Lauren's disappearance. He agreed to represent Nathan Curtis (Christopher Harper), who was arrested in connection with the case.
Nathan has made his return to the cobbles of Weatherfield after being released from prison earlier this year, having been incarcerated in 2017 for grooming and exploiting Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon).
