The boy was hit on St Helens Road, in the Daubhill area, at around 7am this morning (Friday, October 6). Police said earlier the full extent of his injuries was 'unknown at this time'.

Pictures from the scene showed the police car with its left wing mirror hanging off and a major dent in the windscreen. Another image showed a brown bag and water bottle next to a first aid kit on the road.
A police photographer was spotted taking pictures within the cordon as traffic was diverted away from the area. A number of shops were within the taped off area.
One shop worker, who wanted to remain anonymous, told the Manchester Evening News he could hear sirens for 'two to three minutes' before 'realising something was wrong'. He then rushed outside to help the boy.
He said: "I went to the window and I him on the floor [in the road]. I saw the police running with the green first-aid bag."
The worker, who said he works for the fire service in Pakistan when not in England, added: "I grabbed my fire service jacket, and the guy was still laying on the floor. I wanted to do first aid but the only thing we could do was clean the wound.
"We waited for the ambulance to arrive. They took him and got him to hospital."
