Shocking footage has shown the moment the roof of a former nightclub collapsed after a huge fire tore through the venue in front of stunned onlookers.
The massive blaze broke out at the former Kitty's nightclub on Hunter Street in Kirkcaldy at around 2.45pm yesterday, Sunday, September 3, sparking a huge emergency response.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) confirmed that 40 firefighters tackled the inferno at its peak. Video footage shared with the Daily Record shows huge plumes of smoke billowing from the building.
Large flames can be seen twisting out from a turret on the corner of the roof of the building, blowing in the wind as firefighters battle the blaze.
Then, the masonry can be seen crumbling and large pieces of the turret break off and crash down onto the pavement and road below, close to where the firefighters are positioned with a hose.
A crowd of people gathered watching the drama unfold can be heard screaming and shouting "oh no" as the piece of the roof finally gives way and the turret collapses into the shell of the building.
There are no reported casualties at this stage but police closed several roads and advised locals to avoid the area and to keep their windows and doors closed due to the dangers of smoke.
An SFRS spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 2.46pm on Sunday, September 3, to reports of a building fire on Hunter Street, Kirkcaldy. Operations Control mobilised six appliances and two height appliances to the scene. There are no reported casualties.
"There are still pumps in attendance this morning, September 4, to ensure there is no spread of fire. Firefighters will remain in the area, possibly for a number of hours while this is carried out."
They added that at this stage there was no
