A Scots slimmer lost half her body weight by ditching takeaways after she was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. Jennifer Marshall, from Coatbridge, who tipped the scales at 18st 6lb, lost a whopping nine stone and now weighs a healthier 9st 6lbs.
The 41-year-old was terrified after receiving her frightening health diagnosis and vowed to change her life after years of struggling with her weight during the lockdown of 2020.
The retail manager would scoff four takeaways a week, but has since turned to fakeaways to keep her cravings at bay. She also took up walking and now works out at the gym four to five times a week.
Jennifer says implementing small changes has changed her life for the better.
She told the Record: "I was diagnosed with diabetes and it really scared me. I knew I couldn't go on the way I had been.
"I'm a full time carer for my gran and I struggled with her personal care and day to day things because of my weight. I couldn't give her the care she needed. I was constantly tired and had no energy.
"Before, I would skip breakfast or maybe have a chocolate bar and grab food on the go but it wasn't the healthiest. I would have about four takeaways a week.
"Now instead of chocolate I will fill up on veg and protein so that helped me not snack as I wasn't hungry. It really is the little changes that make a difference."
Jennifer's weight always affected her confidence and she "stayed in the background" but she is now more comfortable in her own skin.
She is now going to be running her own Slimming World group in Stepps and hopes to inspire others by offering them the same vital support she received at the group she attended in Airdrie.
Jennifer added: "My sugar levels are now back to normal and I have so much more energy.
