Police probing a ‘targeted’ Christmas Day attack on a woman say the getaway car used by the suspect was found on fire just hours later. An investigation has been launched after a 32-year-old was assaulted in the Graysknowe area of Edinburgh at around 6pm on Sunday.
The suspect was then seen getting into the passenger side of a dark-coloured Volkswagen, which was parked nearby during the incident, before fleeing the scene. Officers say the suspect’s motor was parked up in the West Pilton Lea area by two men at around 45 minutes later.
An unknown man was then witnessed approaching the vehicle and torching it at around 11.30pm on December 25. Officers say that while the woman did not require hospital treatment, they believe she was the intended target.
Detective Inspector Kevin Tait, from Corstorphine CID, said: “This appears to have been a targeted attack and we can be thankful that the victim was not more seriously injured.
“We are appealing to anyone with information, or was in either the Graysknowe or West Pilton Lea areas and witnessed anything suspicious, to please come forward.
“You can contact police on 101, quoting incident 1821 of 25 December, 2022. Alternatively, please call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, if you wish to remain anonymous.”
