A Scots couple say they started to feel 'claustrophobic' at the 'overcrowded' Edinburgh Hogmanay Party and left within five minutes of arriving.
Jason Gafney, 52, and his wife Vecheka Song, 31, from Edinburgh arrived at the event at around 10pm but they soon started to feel boxed in and found it impossible to move.
They tried to talk to police and stewards about the situation but decided to leave almost immediately after arriving, reports Edinburgh Live. Jason says it was a “total rip off” and warned people against attending the event in the future.
He said: “It is a total rip off at Hogmanay. I highly recommend that no one bothers with the event in future.
“We got in the queue at about 10:00pm for Frederick Street and the video that I sent was at 11pm just after we got to the bottom of Frederick Street.
“We left after five minutes as there was nowhere to go. My wife is only five foot two so she found it impossible.
“It was clearly overcrowded. You were supposed to be able to get a drink and some food as well as have a dance but I couldn't see where I was supposed to do any of those things.
“I mentioned to police at the bottom of Frederick Street and at the top of Frederick Street. They just kept repeating that they were there to prevent breaches of the peace and to complain to the organisers.
“I also complained to the stewards and they said they agreed but could do nothing.”
Jason says he didn't see any stewards checking tickets and it appeared as though people were just walking through the entrances unchecked. He believes this is what led to the alleged overcrowding situation.
