An NHS mental health nurse has been suspended for six months after she admitted socialising with a patient she had met on the ward and hiding it from bosses.
Norah Jane Lily Wilson met the woman while treating her for depression, low mood and suicidal thinking on the Moredun Ward at Perth's Murray Royal psychiatric hospital.
Patient A, as she is named in public documents, was subsequently discharged - and later told community nurses she had begun a "relationship" with Wilson.
The unauthorised meetings only came to light when the woman was admitted to hospital and she showed mental health crisis medics texts she had exchanged with the nurse of 12 years.
Wilson was hauled up by bosses and claimed she had been "blackmailed" into continuing the relationship.
The extent of the association between the pair has not been disclosed in public papers.
At a Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) tribunal on February 4, Wilson admitted driving Patient A home from Perth Royal Infirmary and visiting her home twice in February 2019, and exchanging messages with her between February and April that year.
Hazel McGuinness, for the NMC, said that Wilson had placed Patient A at "unwarranted risk of harm" by socialising with her outside of her job.
She also said the nurse had breached a "fundamental tenet of the nursing profession" by keeping the relationship from her bosses knowing it was inappropriate.
Solicitor Sarah Donnachie, for Wilson, said the nurse had taken steps to improve her conduct after being suspended pending investigation in November 2019.
Donnachie added that the mental health nurse had been dealing with "personal and private matters" around the time she met Patient A.
An independent panel convened to hear the case concluded that
