A murderer who was sentenced to life in prison after strangling his fiancée to death with his bare hands has died in prison.
John Miller died, aged 58, at HMP Greenock on February 14, 2022, the Scottish Prison Service (SPS) confirmed.
He had been sentenced to life behind bars for murdering 48-year-old nurse Liz Duncan at Aberdeen High Court in 2009.
Miller had seized hold of her neck and compressed it until he had murdered her on May 28, 2009.
Liz, an auxiliary nurse in the coronary care unit at Inverclyde Royal Hospital, had been with him since August 2008.
The pair had been at an Arts Guild show before moving on to the Celtic Supporters' Club in Greenock for a drink.
Miller went home to his ground-floor flat on the town's Wellington Street before his fiancée joined him shortly before 1am.
Neighbours told how they heard a heated argument coming from the ground-floor flat - during which Miller choked Liz to death.
Police Scotland have been advised of Miller's death and the matter reported to the Procurator Fiscal.
A Scottish Prison Service statement said: "John Miller, 58, a prisoner from HMP Greenock has died on 14 February 2022. Mr Miller was sentenced at Aberdeen High Court in 2009.
"Police Scotland have been advised and the matter reported to the Procurator Fiscal. A Fatal Accident Inquiry will be held in due course."
Police Scotland has been contacted for comment.
