A man has died from liver cancer just weeks after complaining of a pain in his stomach.
Paul Wylie, 57, went to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley where he underwent scans and tests after falling ill last October. His family initially thought it was to do with his gallbladder - but Paul was soon given the devastating cancer diagnosis.
Tragically, there was nothing more medics could do except offer him the choice of staying in hospital or spending his final moments at home. Paul died at his home in Barrhead, near Glasgow, surrounded by his family on Wednesday, December 6. His heartbroken widow Josie has now opened up on the ordeal following a difficult Christmas and New Year without her husband.
The 61-year-old told Glasgow Live: "He had too many tumours and they couldn’t do anything for him. I was shocked knowing that I was gonna lose him. He just deteriorated and we didn’t have a chance to process the news he had cancer because it all happened so fast. I cannot get his last few hours out of my head. To see a big strapping man wither away so quickly was not nice."
The couple first met when Josie opened a cake shop. At the time, Paul and his family had a bakery in the Tollcross area and he would visit Josie's business to buy supplies. During his visits, he'd speak to her colleagues about her and one day he entered the shop while Josie went outside for a break when she admittedly thought to herself "I want you."
