A devastated Scots dog owner has spoken out after her beloved dog died while running away from fireworks.
Katie Elwood, from Cumbernauld, told how five-year-old Beau had been out for a walk with her husband Stuart when tragedy struck on Friday, November 3.
The Maltese was spooked after a firework exploded nearby causing her to run away in terror. She briefly returned to her owner's side before a second pyro went off, sending her bolting off, Glasgow Live reports.
Katie said: “Stuart had finished work and had been taking Beau for a walk near the house. She isn't a dog for leaving your side usually so we don't keep her on the lead. She had just been wandering along with Stuart when a firework went off.
"She ran away but didn't go far. She turned to come back but as she did another went off and that was when she bolted."

Stuart frantically called his wife to see if Beau had returned home on her own. But after discovering she hadn’t, he launched a frantic search to find the pooch.
Tragically Beau was later found dead after being hit by two vehicles while trying to run across Forest Road in the town.
Katie continued: "We had put posts out online looking for her and a wee old lady had told my mother-in-law that a little dog had been hit on the dual carriageway.
“A young boy had tried to stop her running onto the road but she was just in a blind panic. I think he was quite devastated."
Katie says that the entire family have been left heartbroken by the loss. She said: "The entire family are devastated. She was a lovely little dog and had a brilliant nature.
"We met so many people through her because people would stop to talk
