A hero who jumped into the water to save a dog as it was swept away has been hailed by it's owner. Natalie Tracey's pet Sadie got into difficulty while in a burn in a park
The shih tzu mix loves to swim in the burn in question in Frigatte Park, Edinburgh. But the water was moving much faster than normal and swept Sadie away.
Natalie made frantic attempts to get to Sadie but was unable to reach her. A passing stranger burst onto the scene, jumping into the water to save Sadie.
Edinburgh Live reports Natalie was on a lunchtime walk with a friend and their dogs when she became aware of the rising water levels.
She tried to keep Sadie from going into the water but when they went past a pond and Natalie’s back was turned, Sadie made a beeline for the water.
But she struggled with the strong current and was swept down the burn. Natalie tried to give chase to Sadie but she was unable to access the burn due to trees and bushes.
Natalie noticed a kind man in his 30s or 40s that was on the water’s edge trying to rescue the dog. Having no luck at the side of the burn, the man decided to wade in up to his knees and rescue the poor pooch. Natalie described the man as a “legend”.
She said: “I was walking in the Figgate park at lunchtime with my friend and her dog. I was being cautious as the water was really high and fast.
"I made sure Sadie didn’t go in the water anywhere. We were going past the pond and she ran into a bit when I had turned around, she always swims and loves the water.
