Clayton Davis Senior Awards Editor Yes, SAG-AFTRA talks with the AMPTP are ongoing, but there’s still an awards season to track. Honoring the best achievements in film and television, the guild’s highest honor has become a critical bellwether during the awards season. The union has made it clear submitting for awards consideration is not considered a “promotion” under the current strike order.
Even though the SAG nominating committee was formed before the strike began in July, SAG-AFTRA has paused all FYC and marketing materials, even if the films have an interim agreement. All e-blasts and screeners for consideration will remain on pause until further notice. That won’t prohibit some of the year’s biggest contenders, such as Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” or Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” from dominating.
We fully expect to see multiple noms coming for those movies. There’s always room for surprise, which you can see via the predictions below. One is a possible mention of Florence Pugh for her turn as a Community Party/love interest.
While we’re not projecting her replacing her co-star Emily Blunt. On the contrary, a mention of her would mimic double-dips seen at the SAG Awards previously, such as Nicole Kidman for “Bombshell” (2019). It wouldn’t propel her into the supporting actress race, but that category is currently wide open and could produce a few more surprises.

Gone are the days of Bradley Cooper acting in a bunch of films over the course of the year. No comedies.
Bradley Cooper isn’t ruling out returning to comedy. In Friday’s episode of The New Yorker Radio Hour, Cooper, 48, was asked if he was putting his comedic past behind him to take more dramatic roles, as he’s getting Oscar buzz for his latest movie, “Maestro.” “Are you done with fun?” host David Remnick asked.
Amazon/MGM’s Saltburn, the dark-comedy sendoff of British upper class, expanded nicely in a big jump from seven screens to 1,566, nabbing a spot in the top ten. The film by Emerald Fennell (Promising Young Woman) grossed $1.73 million for the three-day weekend and $2.7 million for the five-day Thanksgiving frame thanks to a strong core group of theaters.
Poor Things, which promises to be one of the weirdest (and most fun) of the year is almost here! is sure to nab at least a nomination for the , and we are fully drooling over the sets and costumes.Based on the novel by the late Alasdair Gray, Poor Things follows Bella Baxter (Stone), a Victorian woman that was resurrected by the “brilliant and unorthodox scientist” Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe).
Jennifer Garner and Bradley Cooper had a reunion over the weekend. The two worked together for years on the TV show “Alias,” which became a launching pad for both of their acting careers, and was a staple of TV in the early aughts. Elsa Keslassy International Correspondent Maryam Touzani‘s “The Blue Caftan,” a drama revolving around the love between a closeted man and his wife, has sold more than 500,000 tickets around the world. The Arabic-language movie, which world premiered at Cannes in 2022 and won the Fipresci prize, has become the Moroccan film that sold the most admissions overseas in recent history, according to French promotion org Unifrance. Produced by veteran Moroccan filmmaker Nabil Ayouch (“Casablanca Beats,” “Much Loved”), “The Blue Caftan” stars Lubna Azabal (“Incendies”) and Saleh Bakri (“Costa Brava, Lebanon”).
It was a big night for Taylor Swift and Morgan Wallen at the 2023 Billboard Music Awards as they both took the most trophies.
Valerie Wu Intern If it’s a marketing scheme, it’s an elaborate one. “The Curse” stars Emma Stone and Nathan Fielder parodied the trailer introduction to the Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell rom-com “Anyone But You” in a newly released promo.
Jazz Tangcay Artisans Editor Bradley Cooper had a problem. The Oscar-nominated actor was gearing up to play Leonard Bernstein, the musical genius behind “West Side Story” and “Candide” and one of the driving cultural forces of the 20th century. Except, Cooper looked nothing like the distinctive composer and conductor.
.Instead of going too matchy-matchy, and are in New York City in that make them appear effortlessly cohesive. Yesterday was no exception.

The Curse starring Emma Stone and Nathan Fielder has been widely praised by critics as one of the best shows of the year.Created and written by Fielder (The Rehearsal) and Benny Safdie (Uncut Gems), the comedy series follows newly married couple Asher (Fielder) and Whitney Siegel (Stone) who believe they have been afflicted by a curse while co-hosting their problematic HGTV home improvement show, Flipanthropy, in New Mexico. The first reviews have been released ahead of the show’s debut on Paramount+ later this month, with Entertainment Weekly describing it as “the weirdest, most unforgettable show of 2023”.In the B+ review, the outlet wrote: “Blending cringe comedy with contemplative character study and undertones of horror, The Curse is unrelentingly odd and tough to forget.”The Standard were similarly effusive in a five-star review, and explained how the show comments on “white privilege, condescension and mutual distrust”.“To deliver such grand themes with deadpan accuracy and hilarity is no small feat,” the review read. “Emma Stone is capitivating as she flips from breathless do-gooder to barely concealed narcissist; and Nathan Fielder is stellar as the deeply unlikable Asher.”In a five-star review of the first three episodes by the BBC, The Curse is described as being as “edgy, unsettling and smart” as you’d expect from the creator of HBO’s The Rehearsal.
Refresh for more updates….The ramifications of the actors strike at the weekend box office continues to be felt as ticket sales this weekend plummeted to $58.3M, which is currently the third lowest of 2023. Remember, Legendary/Warner Bros’ Zendaya-Timothee Chalamet-Austin Butler-Florence Pugh sequel Dune: Part Two was originally set to play this weekend, and with its departure, there’s at least $50M if not substantially more missing from the box office. Legendary opted to move that sequel based on the Frank Herbert novel to March 2024 so that the actors could properly promote the sci-fi pic; the first pic’s ticket sales siphoned from a day-and-date theatrical play with streaming service Max.
The Chase host Bradley Walsh has become something of a national treasure since making his TV debut in the 1990s. The 63 year old presenter worked as an apprentice at a Rolls-Royce's aircraft engine factory in Watford after leaving school and was also a professional footballer for Brentford before ankle injuries ended his playing career at 22. He then turned to show business - working as a bluecoat at Pontins before being recruited by ITV as a host of short-lived quiz show Midas Touch in 1995.
Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon, from Apple, Paramount and Imperative Entertainment, has set a milestone, crossing the $100M mark at the global box office through Thursday. As it heads into its third frame, the epic western crime saga is at $102.1M worldwide, including $45.3M domestic and $56.8M from the international box office.
